Joan Miró Les Voyants (The Seers), 1970 presents a delicate balance of reds and greens off-set the strong black strokes that appear throughout the piece, accenting a few imaginative characters dispersed about the composition. Adding weight in the upper central portion of the work creates a triangular organization and an overall aesthetic sensibility. The light blues toward the bottom of the work give the illusion of our characters in flight, alluding the unexplained abilities of mysterious seers and mind readers. These surreal characters and figures, bring out Miró's distinctive style; it seems to be an homage to abstract expressionism with its splattered paint composing the background and thick, heavy strokes appearing to be full of life.
Miró delves into the psyche of mind-readers and psychics in creating Les Voyants. Full of vibrant color with lively and complex forms, he translates his style and artistry beautifully.
Created in 1970, this color lithograph on Rives vellum is from a series of six lithographs titled The Seers (Les Voyants).
