Historical Description

Joan Miró Sobreteixims i escultures, 1972 provokes the senses with frantic linear forms that intersect and coalesce to conceptualize the artist’s vision. Created with the intention of becoming an exhibition poster for Miro, the piece works to incorporate the viewer by engaging them with fluid lines of gestural abstraction that swirl with purpose. Using pronounced colors of red, blue, yellow, and green, Miro fills in hollow forms with alternating tones to guide the eye throughout the work. Solid circular dots are placed within the organic forms, reminiscent of eyes as they stare towards the viewer. Fine line stars, a recurring motif of Miro’s, surround the amorphous form, adding a delicacy to the composition that otherwise might be lost in the chaotic nature of Miro’s abstraction.

Created in 1972, this color lithograph on Guarro paper is hand signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 - Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right. This work is numbered from the edition of 150 in pencil in the lower left; published by Sala Gaspar, Barcelona.
