Created in 1978 this work was one of twenty one illustrations Miró executed for Carlos Franqui’s collection of poetry entitled Album 21. A character gazes at the viewer, its eyes wide and its mouth open as if in shock. Two large front teeth inhabit its mouth, adding a playful, childish quality to the figure at view. Constructed with textural color, this work is emblematic of Miró’s unique style. The work’s literary focus ensures it will please a wide variety of audiences.
