Roy Lichtenstein’s, Imperfect Diptych, 57 7/8" x 93 3/4", 1988, presents a dynamic interplay of structure and disruption through bold outlines, crisp geometry, and Lichtenstein’s refined Pop Art clarity. The paired panels create a rhythmic dialogue, while the signature “imperfect” extensions push beyond the frame to introduce tension and movement. These deliberate irregularities break the symmetry of the composition, transforming it into a vibrant and contemporary visual statement. Polished, energetic, and conceptually engaging, Imperfect Diptych highlights his late period mastery of turning precision and fragmentation into striking modern art.

Roy Lichtenstein's Imperfect Series of 1988 is a fascinating group of works that represents a departure from the comic book imagery that defined much of his career. In these massive works, Lichtenstein moves away from representation toward webs abstract geometric shapes filled with flat color, dots, and repetitive lines. The artist seems to be greatly influenced by Neo-Geo (short for Neo-Geometric Conceptualism), a style which gained popularity at the time these works were created.
