Keith Haring Pop Shop V

Keith Haring's 1989 portfolio Pop Shop V consists of four whimsical and brightly colored silkscreen prints. Haring created multiple Pop Shop portfolios in 1989, all based off the name of his original "Pop Shop"  store that he opened in New York City in 1986. The Pop Shop was meant to make Haring's artwork even more accessible to the public, an initiative that the artist was passionate about throughout his career. The store sold everything from T-shirts and pins to posters with Haring's imagery on it. The name "Pop Shop" references the idea of "pop" culture in the context of easily recognizable figures, symbols, colors and idols that appealed to the masses. In his silkscreen print portfolios of the same name, Haring delves deeper into his development of a visual language. In Pop Shop V, Haring depicts aquatic scenes, with dolphins, people and angels swimming or dancing in saturated pink, orange, purple, and blue.
