This work is remarkable in the delicate and graceful nature of the two zebras, their necks curved back in a beautiful interlacing arc. Of his black and white period, Vasarely has stated, "In fundamental research, intellectual rigor and emotional freedom necessarily alternate. The work of art is polyvalent and evolves with the numerous nascent functions of modernity in view. Although my "black - white" period culminated in binary optical kinetics, it also presaged the advent of color.

Discussing his thoughts on abstraction, Vasarely stated, "The celebrated transition from representational to nonrepresentational art is only one of the stages in profound transformation taking place in the plastic arts. The term 'abstract' in painting refers not to an established fact, but to an irresistible trend toward plastic creation different from the kind we already know." (Vasarely 1978, 13).

Created in 1965, this silkscreen on Plexiglas is hand signed by Victor Vasarely (Pécs, 1906 - Paris, 1997) in black ink on the side of the base. This piece is also numbered 17/200 in black ink on the side of the base.
