Sam Francis Untitled, 1991 is a unique monotype with a rich color palette of deep blue, warm yellow and saturated red. The composition is full of energetic paint splatters surrounding a diamond shape created by brushstrokes of blue. The relatively simple design allows Francis’ artistry and color choices take center stage and capture the viewer’s attention. Francis is known for his monotypes, often experimenting with different mediums and colors through this technique. This work showcases Francis’ eye for creating a balanced, colorful, and intriguing work of art. The energy and chaos created by drops of paint express the artist’s motions used to make the work.
