Sam Francis Untitled, 1979 is an energetic composition bursting with chaotic splatters of color that immediately captures the viewer’s attention. Francis uses a full color palette of the rainbow as well as a warm brown. The vibrant colors are dripped and sprayed all over the design and express the energy of Francis’ artistic motions. Beneath the splatters lays a geometric cross pattern that provides a structure to an otherwise freeform and abstract design. Francis is able to translate the energy of movement and passion into a visual experience for viewers to enjoy.
Created in 1979, Sam Francis Untitled is a unique monotype on handmade paper. This work is stamped Sam Francis by the Sam Francis Estate on verso and it also carries the Sam Francis Foundation archive number written on verso.
