Keith Haring Andy Mouse silkscreen (Plate 2) is the second installment of the artist’s Andy Mouse Series of 1986. In this work, Haring illustrates a grey mouse modeled after Mickey Mouse, but he is adorned with Andy Warhol’s signature thick glasses and spiked hair in pink. He lays in a relaxed position with one gloved hand on his hip and the other waving at the viewer. He is supported by five of Haring’s signature figures that take up the bottom third of the composition. All six figures are placed on top of a green background. In creating a square composition using silkscreening, Haring references Warhol’s work which often takes form in square silkscreens. Additionally, this method of printing allows the artist to create saturated and precise illustrations in large numbers.
Created in 1986, this silkscreen is hand-signed by Keith Haring (Reading, 1958 – New York, 1990) in pencil in the lower right margin and hand-signed by Andy Warhol in pencil in the lower left margin. Numbered from the edition of 30 in pencil in the lower right margin.
Keith Haring’s Andy Mouse silkscreen(Plate 2) is part of a portfolio of four silkscreens in the artist’s Andy Mouse portfolio of 1987. This body of work depicts illustrations of the fellow artist and Haring’s dear friend Andy Warhol. Also featured in this portfolio are Andy Mouse (Plate 1), Andy Mouse (Plate 3) and Andy Mouse (Plate 4).
