Historical Description

Decorated with a horizontal linear pattern punctuated by geometric shapes, Markab creates a viewing experience in which the onlooker gets lost. The monumental size of the work adds to this sense of losing oneself. By enlarges and minimizing the black and white lines within the tapestry, Vasarely infuses his creation with a kind of living breath. It is as if the whole work respires through this collection of modern art.

Created by the famed weavers of Aubusson after an original design by the artist, this original wool tapestry bears the artist's woven signature in the lower right. Published by Tabard Frères et Soeurs it also bears the Aubusson label on the verso. The work is annotated No. 886.
