Historical Description

Vasarely's skill in creating a sense of the three-dimensional through the use of visual effects is greatly apparent in this work. A central figure in the shape of a distorted hexagon rests against a divided background of royal blue and black. Though technically two dimensional, this colorful form appears as a three dimensional structure. Depending on the viewer's focus, certain areas appear to recede or protrude, toying with one's sense of perception and adding an intriguing and interactive element to this work. At times, this piece appears to depict a vertical tower to the left, viewed from high above while, at other times, the piece appears to depict a horizontal block, extending out towards the viewer.

This original color serigraph is hand signed by Victor Vasarely (Pécs, 1906 - Paris, 1997) in pencil in the lower right margin and numbered from the edition of 300 in pencil in the lower left margin.
