Historical Description

Utilizing a vibrant color palette of red, orange, blue, burgundy, and magenta, Vasarely creates a vibrant, geometric piece. Aside from standard squares, circles, and diamonds, Vasarely incorporates semicircles into this geometric grid, allowing the straight lines of the semicircles to mimic the central square formation and creating an overall harmonious composition. The raised surfaces of Granat Positiv further toy with light and shadow, creating a work with a sense of depth and perspective. Like other multiples from this series, this period of production is referred to as Vasarely's Expansive Regressive or Universal Structures vocabulary. It is characterized by deep undulating surfaces or plains, fantastic color modulations, and checkerboard grids.

Created in 1967, this hand painted wood relief is hand signed by Victor Vasarely (Pécs, 1906 - Paris, 1997) in blue ink on the Éditions Denise René label adhered to the reverse. Numbered from the edition of 50 on the label on the reverse; published in 1967.
