Historical Description

Representing a mirror, Lichtenstein challenges the viewer’s perception creating images in the same space that are not identical but have the same components. Created in black and white tones, there is a subtle use of blue which pops out, making the composition feel a little livelier. When that is mixed with the variations in dots, squares, line work, and strokes, the image really feels like a Lichtenstein giving a rather intimate look into his processes when the art is his own creation.

Created in 1970, this color screenprint on white woven paper is hand-signed and dated by Roy Lichtenstein (New York, 1923 – New York, 1997) in pencil in the lower right margin: ‘rf Lichtenstein ‘70’.  Numbered from the edition of 250, aside from the edition of unknown number of artist's proofs, this work is published by The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum of Fine Creations Inc., New York.
