Historical Description

This delightful piece offers the viewer a glimpse at multiple images within the scope of a single, large composition. Each of Picasso's small pictures conveys a different subject, depicted through the use of loose, sketchy lines in vibrant hues of red and blue. Amidst the varied subjects are the silhouettes of men playing musical instruments, riding horses, or simply lounging on the beach. Picasso also depicts mystical creatures such as fauns and centaurs while still incorporating still life scenes and landscapes. He frames each image within its own rectangular border, relaying the impression that the viewer is witnessing snapshots in time, or framed images hanging on the wall in a family home.

Created in 1956, this original color lithograph is numbered 25/50 in pencil in the lower left margin (from the edition of 50 numbered and signed proofs plus a few artist's proofs) and hand signed by Pablo Picasso (1881 - 1973) in pencil in the lower right margin.
