Intimate in perspective and delicately rendered, this piece captures the artist innate sensitivity and unique understanding of form.
Created on April 29, 1963, this work is numbered 196/200. Printed on a heavy wove Arches paper, this work is hand signed by Pablo Picasso (Malaga, 1881 - Mougins, 1973) in pencil in the lower right. Picasso's signature and date also appear in the stone in the upper left.
Displaying the artist's sense of affection and understanding of beauty, this work is constructed on the base composition of a contour line drawing. This elemental technique allows the viewer to focus upon both the graceful quality of line as well as the intimate scene portrayed. A sense of energy and vibrancy is added by the color and lines seen at the background of the image. As stated by Luis Carlos Rodrigo, "Daniel-Henry points out that "his 'subjects' are his loves. He never painted an object with which he didn't have an affectionate relationship - and certainly not only on aesthetic grounds" (pg. 1495).
About the Framing:
Conservation framed with museum quality archival materials, this work is set in a striking gold leaf frame with waved sculptural details. The varied gold hues of the frame add depth to the piece and compliment the warm tones in this work. The waved elements of the moulding accentuate the loose linear quality of this piece. Completed with white linen wrapped mattes and a matching gold inner fillet, this work is set behind archival Plexiglas.
