Historical Description

Pablo Picasso Visage aux cheveux bouclés (Curly Haired Face), 1968-1969 is an exquisite impression that captures the face of an unknown man. With textured curls cascading down the side of, his nose narrow and defined, eyes wide open as they gaze straight ahead, taking in his surroundings. In brilliant colors of green, blue, and white that play off the natural red tone of the clay, textures and light come into play that allow for the face to come to life. Layered between the glazes, you can see shadows as they drop beneath the eyes and nose, creating a greater sense of depth. A textured blue line runs parallel to the edge, framing the face within the work and confining it to the medium without it coming across as confined.
