Bright and joyful, the colors in this work are boldly placed with large areas of red, green, blue, orange, and yellow tones. Capturing our attention are two figures at the front of the composition, the male and female, floating above the Mediterranean cost in a gentle embrace. Above them flies a watchful green bird, a symbol of their new family and fertility. Surrounded by an explosive bouquet of bright and fresh flowers, the couple is unaffected by their lavish surroundings as they focus intently on one another, enjoying the beginning of their new lives together.

Created in 1967, this original color lithograph is from Chagall's series Nice and the Côte d'Azur, comprising twelve color lithographs. Numbered from the edition of 150 in pencil in the lower left margin and printed on Arches wove paper. It is hand signed by Marc Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887 - Saint-Paul, 1985) in pencil in the lower right margin.
