The Nobel Prize is bestowed upon those who are recognized by a committee for their cultural and/or scientific advances and this homage by Miró is certainly befitting. Miró actively engages the viewer, encouraging him or her to constantly find new form and meaning within the composition. The black figure at the center appears as a thick, tangled net with colorful contents trapped within. Miró sets this figure against a playful background that is speckled in black and dotted with varied colors, creating a piece full of animation and liveliness.
Created in 1976, this color lithograph is hand-signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma, 1983) in pencil in the center right. An artist's proof annotated HC (Hors de Commerce) in pencil in the lower left (aside from the numbered edition of 100), this work was published by Galerie Börjeson, Malmö and printed by La Polígrafa, S.A., Barcelona.
