Full of Miró’s signature color and abstraction, Joan Miró Le Grand Ordonnateur (The Big Organizer), 1969 fills any room with playful and spontaneous energy. The thick black lines look solid, but upon closer inspection are more complicated – they hold the pocked texture of the carborundum, adding a delightful textural element to the work. The watercolor feel of the aquatint provides a soothing contrast to the solid colors. Central is a small face, composed of two eyes and a line connecting them which appears as a nose. The playful face creates a personality for the whole figure, which suddenly appears as more figural than abstract. All the elements come together to create an eye-catching and dynamic work of art.
Created in 1969, this color etching with aquatint and carborundum is hand signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right corner and numbered from the edition of 75 in pencil in the lower left corner; published by Maeght éditeur, Paris; printed by Morsang, Paris.
