Historical Description

Andy Warhol Beethoven, 1987 FS II.390 is a captivating portrait of the classical 19th century portrait of the composer, featuring saturated purples, contrasting yellows and a bright pop of red. The notes from one of Beethoven's compositions, Sonata No. 14, floats across his portrait, adding dimension to Warhol's unconventional portrayal of the composer. Warhol was obsessed with all things celebrity and fame and this portfolio of portraits of the famous composer fits in seamlessly with his other works of famous people, like Marylin Monroe and Queen Elizabeth.

Created in 1987, this color screenprint on Lenox Museum Board is hand signed in pencil on verso by the executor of The Estate of Andy Warhol, the publisher, and the printer on a stamped certificate of authenticity. Printed by Jasen Smith, New York. Published by Hermann Wunsche, Bonn, Germany. Numbered from the edition of 60 in pencil on verso.
