The Star of David is created through multiple images, in which only one vantage point reveals the complete star. From the extreme left of the work, a blue on white composition of inverted triangles is visible. As the viewer moves slowly to the right, the Star of David emerges in blue, white, and red, with colorful elements interspersed around the star. To the extreme right, a completely abstract composition of reds, yellows, blues, and violets are organized in a rectilinear fashion creating a sense of motion and transition.
Representing Agam's unique perception and revolutionary technique, this piece transforms the way in which we view art through four dimensions. As the viewer moves around the piece, there is an effect of change and transformation. Not only does this work reflect the variety of interpretations fundamental to optical art, the artist's intention was to represent the ever changing meanings within life itself.
Created in 1983, this work is hand signed by Yaacov Agam (Rishon LeZion, 1928- ) with a star drawing and date on verso in blue marker. An Artist's Proof, this work is numbered 'A.P VI/XVIII' (AP 6/18) in blue marker on verso.
