Pablo Picasso Woman's Face, 1968 -1969
A whimsical portrait with bold colors, this work appeals to our response to texture, depth, and space. There is a wonderful interplay between lines, as they cross and curve to create a curious face with round eyes and long nose. Despite the title, this face appears somewhat androgynous, as if it could be either male or female, contributing a further element of mystery to this intriguing piece.
Created in 1968-1969, this red earthenware clay square plaque engobe ground with engraving enhanced with oxides under partial brushed glaze (white, green, blue, yellow, black, patina) is from the edition of 100. This work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse.
