Historical Description

Pablo Picasso Taureau (Bull), 1955 A.R. 255 is a distinct ceramic pitcher with bold colors and incredible detail. This rare ceramic work by Picasso showcases the playful image of a jumping bull. In the front of the pitcher, Picasso features the bull’s face and front legs. The bull stares directly at the viewer, creating a feeling of suspense. His large horns are painted in white, contrasting beautifully against his shadowed body. Picasso has taken the utmost care in engraving the bull’s features. From its alert eyes to its curly hair, each quality is enhanced in great detail. Every angle of this magnificent pitcher provides new perspectives on this powerful animal. Viewed from the side, the bull appears to arch its back as it prepares to leap in the air. Its tail is painted onto the handle of the pitcher, curved upwards as if to show its excitement. Painted on the bottom is a yellow ring which encircles the pitcher. The bright yellow shade enlivens the composition, creating an exuberant burst of energy. This rare and large-scale ceramic is an unforgettable addition to any collection.
