Pablo Picasso Rider, 1968-1969

Exhibiting his love of experimenting with various art media, this piece is rendered with strong contrast and lyrical figurative elements. Set against a brilliant white background, the cavalier sits astride his horse. The horse rears up slightly, as if preparing to gallop off into the distance. Created in 1968-1969, this red earthenware clay square plaque with engobe ground, engraving enhanced with oxides (white, 2 greens, blue, yellow) under partial brushed glaze is from the edition of 100. This work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse.
