Historical Description

Pablo Picasso Motifs no. 45, 1963

Thick lines and organic forms surround the circular white and red center of this striking ceramic plate. These multicolored, decorative touches stand out against the stark black background and contribute a sense of playfulness to this magnificent piece. The organic forms appear to dance around the borders, while the thick lines bear a close resemblance to rays of sunshine. Full of energy and liveliness, Motifs no. 45 encourages our eye to jump around the surface of the plate, from the center circles out towards the plate's edge.

Created in 1963, this original round plate of white earthenware clay with decorations in engobe and enamel (red, pink, blue, black, white) under partial brushed glaze with black patina is from the edition of 150. This work is inscribed 'Edition Picasso Exemplaire Editeur Madoura N.45' on the reverse.
