Pablo Picasso Femme au Chapeau a Fleurs (Woman with Flowery Hat), 1964

A remarkably detailed image of a beautiful and mysterious woman wearing an ornate flowery hat, this piece maintains the beautifully saturated black engobe printing and pristine markings on the reverse. The woman faces the viewer head-on, but Picasso depicts her nose in profile, adding an abstract element to this work. Her voluptuous hair surrounds her face, and an intricate hat with delicate, swirling lines rests upon her head. Picasso utilizes cross-hatched lines to add a sense of depth and shadow to her face, and the grooves and indentations created by these lines create an uneven surface, contributing a textural quality to this piece.

Created in 1964, this Madoura rectangular plaque is made of red earthenware clay, printed with engobe pad in black. This work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EMPREINTE ORIGINALE DE PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse and is numbered from the edition of 100.
