In Picasso’s true, iconic style of craft and artistry, he instills an essence of childlike sentiment and fond nostalgia within this work. Using the calm and serene expression of the boy’s face, coupled with his large hat and charming flower, we are convinced this is a depiction of a lovely summer scene; the bright yellows work against the bright reds, which in turn are complemented by an anchoring sky blue arrangement along the lower border of the work. This is a highly intriguing and, moreover, rare work by Picasso; while originally drawn in 1970, the work was printed in 1973, thus making it one of his last prints published just before his death. Many believe this to be his last work. Fully engaging and incredibly bright, Un homme avec une fleur merely serves to spawn our curiosity and appreciation for Picasso’s vision and creativity.
