Historical Description

Pablo Picasso Face No. 125

DISCUSSION:
In this striking ceramic, Picasso plays with geometry, color, and line to create a whimsical portrait. Borrowing from primitive influences, he constructs a masklike face made from sharp lines and swift strokes. Composed above a wheel of colored slices, the each color radiates from the center of the piece, symbolizing the faces vibrant personality.

Created in 1963, this round plate of white earthenware clay with decoration (red, blue, green, yellow, black, white) in engobe and oxides under glaze is from the edition of 150. This work is annotated 'Edition Picasso' and 'Madoura' in black on the reverse.
