Historical Description

Exhibiting his love of experimenting with various art media, Picasso renders this piece with strong contrast and lyrical figurative elements. Set against a white background, the stunning picador sits atop his horse and strikes the bull with his spear. The striking silhouettes of the picador, horse, and bull evoke a sense of motion, activity, and excitement.

Created in 1955, this original turned round cupel of white earthenware clay with decoration in engobes and paraffin (black, red) with white enamel is from the edition of 500. This work is annotated 'EDITION | MADOURA | PICASSO' on the bottom.
