Historical Description

Pablo Picasso Peintre au Travail avec Modele barbu at une Spectatruce assise en taillur (dal portfolio ‘Les Bleus de Barcelone’), 1963 is a beautiful example of the artist’s skill in printmaking. This black and white aquatint and etching retains all the incredible details of Picasso’s hand markings. Picasso uses stark contrasts of light and dark to create an eye-catching composition that draws the viewer’s eye around the work. This aquatint and etching centers on a painter painting a portrait of a model, with a female figure watching from behind, sitting cross-legged. Picasso often created works of painters working in studios and this was a common subject for Picasso to explore. Picasso was intimately familiar with this environment and using dynamic shading and fluid lines, Picasso shows the viewer an insight into his world of creation through this print.
