Historical Description

Fantastically bold and vibrant, this stunning piece is exemplary of Picasso’s innovative use of color composition and expressive lines and brush strokes.  It is exquisitely balanced in form and geometry, but also evokes the summer calm and peacefulness Picasso experienced while at his atelier in the south of France.  The dominant red throughout the work awards this print a life of its own, coupled with an accenting light blue which dominates the sky beyond.  Bright, green leaves of the palms out the windows can also be seen, which echo the patterns on the floor below.

Created in c. 1960, this work is hand signed in red pencil by Pablo Picasso (1881 – 1973) in red pencil in the lower right margin and numbered 203/300 in red pencil in the lower left margin.  Featuring wide margins and a strongly defined plate mark, this work was published by Atelier Crommelynck, Paris.
