Historical Description

In a beautifully touching scene we happen upon a couple floating amidst a bouquet. Everything is dull and colorless around them, but as if in a different moment of time, the couple is brightly dressed in green and yellow. With petals of red flowers floating around them the lack of color is strange for Chagall but highlights the energy and romance seen in the composition.

Created in 1959, this color lithograph is hand signed by Marc Chagall (Vitebsk, 1887 - Saint-Paul, 1985) in pencil in the lower right. This work is an artist's proof aside from the edition of 75 annotated 'HC' (hors de commerce) in pencil in the lower left.
