Historical Description

Boldly designed with dark lines and bright colors, this work conveys the artist's sensitive impression of man's relationship with nature. Full of expression and warm emotional imagery, the line quality in this work is extremely textured with a turbulent gestural quality creating movement throughout the work.

Created in 1976, this work is printed on Arches wove paper. This piece is signed by Chagall in the lower right hand side of the work in pencil, and from the edition of 50 in pencil in the lower left.

Expressing a sense of peacefulness and solitude, this work is full of detailed and active line work. The two figures on the left appear at rest with serene expressions on their faces, while a large bouquet sits on the right. Brightly colored with purple, red, and green, a yellow bird sits just above the flowers in front of a window. The lyrical quality of this piece reflects the artist's use of dreamlike imagery and bright colors as seen throughout Chagall's work.
