Evoking a wistful, springtime charm, Le Printemps captures the essence of blossoming energy and radiant color. The winter air seems to melt away with Chagall's warm and vibrant depiction of a floral landscape.
Created in June 1969, this piece is out of the edition of 75 and numbered in pencil in the lower left margin. Printed on Arches wove paper and published by Editions Maeght, Paris, it is also signed by Marc Chagall (1887-1985) in pencil in the lower right margin.
Radiant greens compliment nicely with Chagall's use of pinks, oranges, yellows, and touches of blue to create this magical bouquet which signifies the oncoming Spring. There are also a few whimsical characters along the left side: a couple and a small goat. The trio symbolizes a sense of rebirth, vitality, and renewed vigor that the Springtime can bring. She is elaborately detailed with stunning costume in yellows, blues, and spots of pink while the goat is depicted in a brilliant marigold. The entire composition is also decoratively bordered by Marc Chagall, creating an elegant, framed scene. As one of his most colorful and jovial works, Le Printemps would be a fine addition to any collection.
