The explosion of color within this work, coupled with its charming and whimsical imagery works together in perfect harmony to create the frontispiece for Elsa Triolet's book, La Mise en Mot. The bright pinks accent the vibrant, green grass which are both set against a beautiful blue sky. The yellows serve to leap from the sheet, highlighting this bold, bright impression. Triolet was a passionate, fervent French writer, later marrying Louis Aragon, also another writer. They were inspired by the flowering literary movement in Russia and France at the time, befriending many artists who helped them visualize their works. In 1944, Triolet became the first woman awarded the Prix Goncourt, the most prestigious prize in French literature.Created in November 1969, this work was the image for the frontispiece of the book, La Mise en Mot by writer Elsa Triolet. Published by Albert Skira, Geneva and printed by Mourlot, Paris, this print is out of the edition of 175 signed and numbered proofs on Arches wove paper, aside from the edition of 25 signed works numbered with roman numerals.
