Hopfer etchings, woodcuts and engravings are known for their mythological subject matter and relation to such crafts as metal etching and goldsmithing.

Hieronymus Hopfer, son of Daniel Hopfer and brother of Lambert Hopfer worked with his father to recreate prints by etching. Daniel Hopfer is believed to be the first to utilizing etching in printmaking. Hopfer was born around 1500 and few details are known about his life with the exception that he traveled to Nuremburg for a year in 1529, and eventually died there in 1550. Hopfer worked mostly off of German and Italian woodcuts and engravings.
