Historical Description

Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec Mademoiselle Marcelle Lender, Debout (Mademoiselle Marcelle Lender, Standing), 1895 is a lovely depiction of the famed French singer, dancer, and entertainer and is a brilliant expression of the artist’s fascination with her. He captures the captivating nature of the celebrity, exemplifying her elaborate wardrobe and elegant posture. She declines to make eye contact with the viewer and looks ahead with a beaming smile toward adoring admirers. In this work, Toulouse-Lautrec perpetuates his classic depictions of luxury and opulence, yet departs from his typical use of bold color and instead opts to employ soft hues of green and grey with contrasting deep red.

A fine impression of Wittrock and Adriani’s second and final state of this extremely rare and desirable lithograph. From the edition of only 12 in this state. Published by Ed. Kleinmann, Paris.
