Utilizing a bold color palette of red, black, yellow, and blue-grey, Leger creates an abstract work in which shapes and forms appear to drift in space. The large, red central image hovers vertically above a yellow, horizontal U-shaped form at the bottom of the composition. The two figures complement each other and appear as two obscured tetris pieces fitting together. The blue-grey background is clouded with small, black figures that convey a sense of weightlessness, as if all of the figures in the piece are effortlessly drifting along.
Created in 1954, this color screenprint is hand-signed by Fernand Léger (Argentan, 1881 – Gif-sur-Yvette, 1955) in ink in the lower right margin and is numbered from the edition of 200 in pencil in the lower left margin.
