Claude Monet Les Eaux semblantes, temps somber (The Creuse, dark weather), 1894 is a scene of the Creuse river. From where Monet was perches, the river curves around to the left, and is soon hidden by the land. The banks of the river are relatively steep, and the water flows gently through them. Some clouds are visible in the sky, indicating the oncoming weather. Monet renders the water brilliantly, making it looks glassy in parts in the front of the image, and faster moving towards the curve of the river with touches of white.

Created in 1894 after an original painting of the same title created in 1889, this color lithograph on chine appliqué on wove paper is hand-signed by Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) in pencil in the lower left margin; also hand-signed by the engraver G. W. Thornley in pencil in the lower right margin. From an edition of 25 hand-signed proofs by both Claude Monet (Paris, 1840-Giverny, 1926) and G.W. Thornley; printed by Belfond & Cie and published by J. Mancini, Paris.
