Utilizing a variety of vibrant colors in a myriad of varied, small geometric shapes, Chuck Close creates a startlingly lifelike portrayal of his subject James. James appears as if staring the viewer straight in the eye; he is fearless and slightly confrontational, eager to address the viewer's gaze head on. Close masters the ability to create a cohesive whole while still allowing the viewer to witness the small components from which his subject in entirety is constructed, creating a stunning piece that encourages the viewer to observe the piece both up close and far away.
Created in 2004, this screenprint in colors is hand-signed by Chuck Close (Monroe, 1940 - ) in pencil in the lower margin and numbered from the edition of 80 in pencil in the lower margin. This piece was published by Pace Editions.
