Historical Description

In this silver self-portrait, Andy Warhol places himself as an iconic subject. He stares out at the viewer, a man of mystery and genius. The right half of his face is shrouded in shadow, and he gracefully rests his hand below his chin, as if pondering his next brilliant piece. Unlike other images of Warhol, here he appears composed and classy, a man truly worthy of his artistic fame.

Created in 1966, this offset lithograph on silver coated paper is hand signed by Andy Warhol (Pennsylvania, 1928 - New York, 1987) on the reverse in black ink; also numbered from the edition of 300 and dated '66' on the reverse in black ink (from the total edition of 300). Printed by Total Color, New York and published by Leo Castelli Gallery, New York.
