Famous Figures in Art History

Famous Figures in Art History Glossary:

Thank you for visiting Famous Figures in Art History. As part of our educational mission we have created a glossary with short biographies of prominent people in the art world. Our goal is to provide more supplemental material to the links already availabl0 on our Art Education page, such as our Art Dictionary, as a way to further already strong interest in art history, and to cement new interest in those new to the art world.

Many of our artists were inspired and helped by others along the way, and here we seek to make all those people known. Whether you have always wondered about Picasso’s myriad of muses, thought about how artists’ personal relationships influenced their work, or perhaps wanted to know about the more practical question of who sold their art, you’ve come to the right place.

Famous Figures in Art History will delve deeper into a variety of people, from Ambroise Vollard, the confident art dealer who worked closely with greats such as Picasso and Renoir, to muses turned lovers, and a couple Georges and Suzanne Ramié who introduced Picasso to the field of ceramics. In doing so, we will hopefully bring a greater understanding of the artists and artworks that you may view on our website. Also gained from this glossary, is knowledge of the connections between many master artists and the multitude of ways in which all their lives are connected and were continually influencing one another.

Each of our biographies links to all prominent figures or artists that are mentioned within and we hope you take the time to explore and get lost in the entertaining and educational world of art history!
