Historical Description

Of his career Agam (Rishon LeZion, 1928-) has stated, "My endeavor has been to create a kind of visual graphic art, existing not only in space, but in time; one in which the form develops and evolves, thus procuring an unforeseeable infinity of plastic situations flowing out of one another." This vibrant piece conveys a myriad of bright colors, contrasted against a shimmering gold background. Agam lines rows of tiny rectangles, identical in size, horizontally. From top to bottom, the colors gradually shift from light green to burgundy, traveling through the color spectrum to attain this metamorphosis. Agam intermittently disperses black rectangles throughout the work, dispersing the uniform nature of the colored rectangles and providing further color contrast.

This original serigraph with black passé-partout is numbered in pencil from the edition of 27 (6 hors de commerce and 10 artist's proofs also exist) and hand-signed by Yaacov Agam (Rishon LeZion, 1928-) in blue ink in the lower right.
