In this Sam Francis Untitled, 1982, textural details and saturated colors greet the viewers. Two rectangular yellow blocks appear against a multi-toned blue background. Spontaneous lines, dots, and paint splatters float around the piece. To Francis, color was the most fascinating element of art. He believed that each color was a receptacle for a feeling which one can contemplate until understanding arrives.
