Historical Description

A large composition comprising of five panels, Lichtenstein Wallpaper with blue floor interior, 1992 depicts a modern room where luxury and comfort coexist in harmony. With bright blues contrasted against whites in his playful style there is a simplicity and rawness to this piece rarely seen in his other works. Perhaps a statement on the monotony of everyday life, he didn’t see his art carrying messages: “I'm not really sure what social message my art carries, if any. And I don't really want it to carry one. I'm not interested in the subject matter to try to teach society anything, or to try to better our world in any way.” So we should simply take it at it’s worth, a lively room, that will be sure to lighten up any room it’s in.

Created in 1992, this color screenprint is hand-signed and dated by Roy Lichtenstein (New York, 1923 – New York, 1997) in silver ink on the fourth panel: ‘R Lichtenstein ‘92’.  Numbered from the edition of 300, aside from the edition of fifty artist's proofs, this work was published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, and features their blindstamp.
