As geometric shapes are fitted into eye-catching patterns, we are caught in a sense of wonderment. Considered technical masterworks in the optical art world, the ten works created for the ‘Inward Eye’ suite are methodically designed in form and colors of yellows, reds, greens, blues, and purples, which combine to create a brilliant perceptual experience. An experience that while mesmerizing also manages to convey feeling which speaks to the power of Anuszkiewicz as an artist and the inspiration of William Blake’s (1757-1827) writing.

Anuszkiewicz felt a connection and understanding for Blake, a man whose sentiments mirrored his own: ‘Without minuteness of execution the sublime cannot exist. Grandeur of ideas is founded on precision of ideas.” (Blake). Possessing such a scientific approach while still being fascinated in conveying feelings is why Blake’s writing inspired the suite and what makes them unique and personal for the artist. This kind of expression in op art is hard to come by, which makes these works a truly moving statement and Anuszkiewicz an artist quite unlike any other.
