Under Renoir's agile hand his subjects become the very definitions of youth, joy, and grace as they inhabit a lighthearted world of delicate silhouettes and barely suggested backgrounds. In this work a young adolescent girl is depicted as she patiently sits as a model for Renoir. His expert handling of the etching medium further evokes the quiet contemplative beauty of his young female subject. What is so unique about this work is Renoir's understated handling of her body through delicate details. Her supple skin barely suggested by a few lines underneath her chest, soft flowing hair, and innocent expression are just a few of the subject's qualities that are brought to life with his nimble etching strokes.

Created c. 1906 by Pierre-Auguste Renoir (Limoges, 1841 - Cagnes-sur-Mer, 1919), this work is from the second state of around 1,000 that are printed on vellum paper.
