A colorful depiction of a beautiful woman, Pablo Picasso Woman Profile, 1971 appears whimsical upon first glance with all of the swirling lines and frenzied color. There is an exquisite layering of texture happening in this lithograph that brings a depth to it. Behind the multicolored curly hair, there are more delicate pale red lines that provide detail to the hair and the face of the woman. Without the myriad of added color on top of this detail, the piece could fall flat - however Picasso has used vibrant colors to make the woman come alive. However the disarray allows for the lines in the profile to shine through, enhancing the woman’s striking features. Youthful and pretty, Picasso captures an essence in her that manages to speak to everyone.
