Pablo Picasso Jacqueline au bandeau (Jacqueline with Headband), 1962 depicts Picasso's companion and muse, Jacqueline Roque, her prominent features suggested by quick sketch-like lines. With a pared-down palette of only black and beige, Jacqueline's face seems to rise out of the shadows of a dark room. the side of her cheek and nose illuminated by a gentle light source. Minimal in detail as in colors, the portrait nonetheless achieves a convincing suggestion of Jacqueline's presence, attesting to Picasso's remarkable mastery over the linocut medium.
Created in 1962, this color linocut on Arches paper is hand-signed by Pablo Picasso (Malaga, 1881 – Mougins, 1973) in pencil in the lower right. Numbered from the edition of 50 in pencil in the lower left; this work was published by Louise Leiris, Paris and printed by Arnéra, Vallauris.
