Utilizing the simplistic design motifs frequently found in his ceramics, Picasso creates an exquisite rectangular dish that plays with our notion of what is functional and what is art. A beautiful woman's face gazes out at us with long nose and closed eyes, a solemn yet peaceful expression upon her face.

Created in 1955, this original rectangular dish of white earthenware clay with knife engraved decoration under brushed glaze and grey patina is from the edition of 500. This work is stamped with the 'MADOURA PLEIN FEU' and 'EDITION PICASSO' pottery stamps on the reverse.
